Incompetent and Dishonest I hired Hugo from A & J Sons in January 2025 to address an ongoing leak issue in my sunroom. According to the written scope of work, the job included removing and installing new fascia and soffits in the discussed areas, reinstalling the gutter system, and installing a drip cap above the windows. After recently having another handyman inspect the area more closely, I discovered that the old deteriorated soffit material had not actually been removed and replaced, but instead remained underneath the newly installed soffit covering. The underlying damaged material was still present and visible once the soffit panel was lifted during inspection. Given the purpose of the repair was to address water intrusion, removing the old soffits was a key part of properly investigating the source of the leak. I also learned that when the drip cap was installed above the windows, it was installed in front of the existing house wrap rather than integrated behind it. When I raised this concern, I was told the house wrap was already there and they simply installed over the existing condition. Hugo should have either tucked the drip cap behind the existing wrap or at least informed me of the issue while the siding was removed and added another layer of house wrap or flashing membrane to improve the water barrier. After confronting Hugo and showing him the pictures, he said his team did everything as promised despite the old soffits, which he continually referred to as trim, still being there. When he eventually came to inspect the work in person, which took weeks of follow up calls, he continued insisting everything was done accordingly. He then started changing his attitude to “why would we do that,” claiming it would take extra work for his crew to remove the old soffits when there was “no reason to.” Warning: don’t expect A & J Sons to honor work scope agreements or communicate properly. This is the first time I’ve ever had to report a business to the Better Business Bureau for shady business practices.

I feel bad giving a small business a bad review, but their work is really horrible. The were hired to remove wood rot and replace soffit/fascia. I reached out immediately because an area broke off during a rain storm within months, and he came by and said it was because the windows needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, over a year later I was informed and shown later that they just put soffit over existing wood rot. They wasted my time and money. I hope no one else makes the mistake of trusting them for repairs.

AJ Sons have completed several multifamily community projects for us. They installed the roofing and siding (ext trims etc) on these projects and we have never had a leak! Hugo and his team are dedicated and respectful. They get their work done with speed, high quality, and on budget!
