I have been trying to resolve this billing dispute for almost two months, but Sunrun has still not provided a satisfactory solution. I am extremely frustrated with the lack of resolution and the unexpectedly high bills. I want Sunrun to review my charges, explain the billing calculations, and provide a fair solution. If this issue cannot be resolved, I want to cancel my contract. I would not recommend Sunrun based on my experience with its billing and customer service

Going to report Sunrun to the better business bureau, attorney general, and any other consumer companies for poor and scammy business practices. I’m sharing this review based on my own experience with Sunrun, and I encourage anyone considering solar to do their own research and carefully understand the terms of their agreement before signing. When we purchased our home, the solar panels had already been installed. We were told that Sunrun (formerly Vivint Solar) had performed an inspection before the panels were installed and that, had the roof not passed their inspection, the panels would not have been installed. We recently discovered that our entire roof needs to be replaced because the original roof was improperly installed and is missing the required lining between the shingles and the wood. This has left us with a very frustrating question: what type of roof inspection was performed before the solar panels were installed if this issue was not identified? Our understanding of the agreement was that Sunrun's 10-year workmanship/repair coverage from the date of installation included repairs for damage related to the solar installation. However, when we contacted Sunrun about our situation, we were told that they would not cover the cost because, according to them, the need for a new roof was not caused by the solar panels. I understand that a roof replacement that wasn't caused by solar panels may not fall under their damage coverage. My concern is that the panels were installed after an inspection, and we were led to believe that the roof had been properly evaluated before installation. We are now dealing with a major expense involving a roof that apparently did not meet proper installation standards in the first place. There is another issue that has made this situation even more frustrating. We were told that only a specific company contracted by Sunrun can remove and reinstall the panels without affecting the warranty. We were quoted more than $12,000 for the temporary removal and subsequent reinstallation of the panels. At the same time, the roofing company contracted by Sunrun offers a bundled option that includes the roof replacement and the panel removal/reinstallation. Sunrun dictates the cost of the panel removal and reinstallation, while the contracted roofing company is the one offering the bundled roofing option. That leaves us feeling as though we don’t have any real choice. For us, the difference in price between the bundled option and using a local roofing company is several thousand dollars, about 5k. Therefore hiring a local company ends up being more costly. I want to be clear that this review is about our experience and how this situation has affected us. I am not claiming to know Sunrun's intentions, and I'm not making assumptions about what happened during the original inspection. I'm simply describing what we were told, what we discovered about our roof, the costs we've been presented with, and how difficult the process has been for our family. Based on this experience, if I could go back, I would not choose to do business with Sunrun. Anyone considering solar should ask very detailed questions about roof inspections, roof condition, removal and reinstallation costs, warranty requirements, and what happens if the roof needs to be replaced while the panels are under contract. This has been an incredibly frustrating and expensive experience, and I hope sharing it helps someone else ask the right questions before entering into a solar agreement.
