My household recently had an extremely concerning experience. A representative came to our door and, according to our understanding at the time, appeared to be associated with PSE&G. The interaction was presented in a way that led us to believe it was related to our utility service. During the visit, account information from a utility bill was reviewed, contact information was provided, and paperwork was signed. It was only afterward, when an enrollment confirmation from Verde Energy was received, that we realized a third-party energy supplier enrollment had apparently taken place. What is most troubling is that the person involved did not believe they were signing up for a new energy supplier. If representatives are not clearly and unmistakably identifying themselves as being from Verde Energy and explaining exactly what is being signed, consumers can easily become confused. I strongly encourage anyone approached at their door to ask for identification, read every document carefully, and never assume a representative is affiliated with your utility company simply because they discuss your electric service. This experience has caused significant stress and frustration, and I believe sales practices should be far more transparent so consumers can make informed decisions.
